The Four Noble Truths (as I understand them) is one of the core tenants of Buddhist thought.  It is rumored the Buddha said "I teach suffering, its origin, cessation and path. That's all I teach."

The Four Noble truths are as follows:

  • There is suffering (Dukkha)
  • The cause of suffering is craving or desire (Samudaya)
  • There is the possibility for freedom from suffering (Nirodha)
  • There is an 8-fold path to follow that helps one achieve freedom from suffering  (Magga)

Disclaimer:

These are my own words and thoughts and while I'm sure they have some validity, this should not be viewed as authoritative on the topic.  Hell, in true Buddhist fashion you should disregard what I say and investigate and experience for yourself.
